CORSIA
Topic explanation
A lane is a part of the carriageway which allows the circulation of a single line of vehicles.
It is limited by continuous or broken lines and has a minimum width of 2.80 metres and a maximum width of 4 metres. c
A lane is always one-way and may be:
for running: for the movement of vehicles
for acceleration: to allow vehicles to enter the carriageway
for deceleration: to allow vehicles to slow down when leaving the carriageway
emergency: for emergency stopping in case of breakdown or illness
reserved: intended exclusively for the circulation of a particular category of vehicles (e.g. taxis or buses)
specialized: intended for certain manoeuvres (e.g. overtaking, stopping, turning)
Lanes may be prohibited to certain types of vehicles.
The road authority may impose a mandatory minimum speed on vehicles travelling in a lane.
It is not true that they can never be crossed by pedestrians, or that two motorcycles or two mopeds can travel side by side in the same lane.
