It is a panel used together with the MANDATORY PASSAGE or PERMITTED PASSAGE sign, placed within the carriageway in the presence of an obstacle (hazard marker, traffic island, central reservation).
It is reflective, for better visibility during night-time hours.
It is not true that it is self-illuminated.
